I went for the Scooter Burger. It's a burger with cheddar, bacon, and grilled onions. The burger was juicy and tasty. I really enjoyed the combination of toppings. The fries were the fresh cut type. They were cooked just right. It's simple hot dog fast good decor inside. Everything was clean. They also have an eating area outside. The people were nice and friendly. I will return next time I'm in the area!

We were visiting the Chicago area for the weekend and came across this place. Very friendly people and good tasting food. We had the Chicago-style hotdogs and fries. Definitely will return for some more next time we visit. The only slight negative were the bathrooms. They weren't the cleanest.

I've been here a few times, usually with my boss who is a REGULAR with all caps. The food is great and the portions are greater! :) Beef is great, chicken is great, fries are great. The sign now says they have Fried Pickles. This is such a temptation!
I'm glad I stumbled upon this place! I ordered a #17 which was an Italian beef, fries, and a drink. I added sweet peppers and cheese to the beef. That was one of the most flavorful beefs I've ever tasted. A lot of options to choose from, this place is a must try.

Seong P.
Ate the hot dog and polish sausage with fries and coke. Food was good. Towards bottom of my drink I discovered something black like ground coffee. That day I had the runs a couple times. I didn't eat anything else that day. Something wrong here.

Good hotdog and the beef sandwich had lots of pepper, which I appreciate.

I was sent out to grab lunch for someone and happened upon scooters. I had to order a polish and then I got the Greek chicken pita for myself. Also got a cheddar cheese fry. The Polish looked a bit sad, it was shriveled and a bit soggy looking. I was assure that it tasted okay, but people usually eat with their eyes first and it didn't look to appealing. The Greek chicken I got was, "meh". When I opened up the wrapper my chicken looked kind of chopped up? Even though it was a while piece when it was on the grill. It had little flavor and was just "okay". Fries were okay but the cheese was disappointing. It was the liquidy tasteless cheese, not the Merks like cheddar cheese. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come here. I'd rather drive the distance to Dear Franks.

Great food and service!! Both the cooks and the front counter attendant are welcoming and friendly! Great hotdogs! I tried their fried pickles recently and I wasn't impressed, the inside of the batter was soggy. Practice makes perfect though and I will try them again when they work on it. Other than that awesome food and service!!

What a great find. Family owned and friendly! Fries are perfect and greek chicken is worth trying. We will be back!

Regretted eating here as soon as I took my first bite. Over-cooked under flavored burger.. Fries were very bland and I just ended up throwing them out. The only good things about this place were the fact that the place was really clean and the staff was really friendly.

Fries are the bomb! ...and the Italian beef is really good. Gotta get it dipped tho. I lived in Chicago for ten years before I had my first dipped beef sandwich. I then had ten dipped beef sandwiches over the next month. It's like discovering ketchup for the first time! My kids always have to have the hot dogs and fries, but I am not much of a hot dog guy (I like ketchup on my hot dogs and that a no-no in Chicago).
(5)
Zachary M.
Food was excellent and can't really complain about the service. The guy taking my order did his job, he just didn't seem too personable. Either way good food, good atmosphere, can't complain.

Cute little place. Lots of menu options. Great hot dogs and burgers. Don't expect a quick meal, everything is made to order it seems. Service was great though.

Old school Chicago style hot dogs and a selection of burgers to die for. The special at the moment two burgers cheese topped with pulled pork. Mmmmm cheese fries and a root beer what could be better

Char-burgers from the grill = awesome! Had the burger of the month: THE MACDADDY: Double Angus beef topped with American cheese, bacon, ranch, and ... 2 mac n' cheese bites! Whoppers go home at night and dream of this burger! If you're going to trash the diet on a Sunday with a 2500 calorie meal, do it right with this burger!

Very good gyro. Sauce a little thin but good. Dog was well liked by the kids. Vienna. Great Chicago dog. Onion rings were great. Clean restaurant with quick service. Not the most friendly place but not bad at all. Great location and plenty of parking in their private lot.
(4)
Samantha S.
The gyros are DELICIOUS!! Friendly staff, delicious food, and great music (quiet enough for you to chat but loud enough to hear!) It's a smaller place though so if you're going to have more than 4 people order it to go.

Steve K.
Pretty good food, the brats and malts are great. Staff is slightly slow during lunch time but whatever.

I've been coming here for years and it's probably my favorite Chicago style food joint. They're famous for hot dogs and fresh cut fries but I always get the burger. Cooked perfectly and always fresh to order. Place is spotless and service is as good as you'll find and I'm a picky ass prick who's hard to please. And as far as the reviewer claiming char dogs are not pre charred anyplace aside from Nebraska he may want to pay a visit to Jim 's Original Maxwell Street, Wiener Circle and countless other Chicago landmark hot dog establishments. It's common practice yet anytime I've ordered a char dog from Scooter's it's never been pre charred .

The pros are that this place is VERY clean and neat, appeared to have been somewhat newly redone, freshly painted, etc. when I was first there recently. Another pro is that there is a pretty big variety of combo meals for a hot dog stand. I went the Italian beef route, and wasn't disappointed by the flavor, but the sandwich presentation left a bit to be desired. I like a bit of juice, but if you're gonna put that much juice on it, invest in a crusty roll that will hold up to it. The softer bun my sandwich was served on was instantly mushy, too mushy to eat the sandwich as a sandwich, and I instead had to use a fork. Any Chicago-area sandwich shop worth its salt that serves Italian beef ought to be giving the option of wet, dry, or dipped, not just assuming you want it dipped. It tasted good, but, yeah, a bit wet for my taste, to the point where it literally could not be picked up. I also always look forward to giardiniera on an Italian beef, but the scoop I got was mostly just jalapenos. Nice kick, but would have liked some of the carrots and cauliflower, too. Counter guy seemed slightly surly, but could have been my imagination. Prices seemed on par for what you get, and the natural-cut fries were good, but could have used a bit more on the fry side. I'd go here again if I were in the area and wanted a quick bite, but probably wouldn't make a special trip or crave it.

Never had their hotdog but their burgers are pretty good. Atmosphere is nice although most customers appear to be construction workers on their lunch breaks. The Scooters guys are friendly enough although they always look stoned. Overall a decent local burger hotdog joint.

4 stars for the hot dog and fries. Really good dog with all the trimmings except celery salt which I require. Good value too at just over two bucks. I just hate paying $3 for a hot dawg. Can't wait to try the beef and combo sammies due to the good reviews in YELP

My family loves Scooters! They cater my sons bday parties and everyone raves about it! My 4 boys love the Italian beef, it's so lean and tasty!! My favorite is the Greek pita, it's packed with perfectly grilled chicken. When I'm craving a Chicago hot dog this is where I go. Scooters never disappoints!!!!!

Sometimes our trips up to Milwaukee lead us in other suburban directions. For Memorial Day weekend, we decided to take the scenic route through some of the suburbs. The mister got especially hungry and talked about getting a good old fashioned Chicago hotdog. Talk of hotdogs made me hungry for one too. After some scenic driving around the perimeter of Fort Sheridan, we headed back to the highway and found Scooter's to our surprise. Honestly, I was surprised that the burbs would have hotdog joints. Scooter's is your standard hotdog/burger/gyro place (with a clean bathroom). I got my favorite standby of a Chicago style jumbo char dog while the mister got a few hotdogs and fries The service was fast and in no time we were on the highway enjoying our hotdogs. Mine was perfect. We shared a helping of fries which were fried perfectly and had minimal grease. Finding Scooter's was a great, delicious surprise. It's good to know that the burbs have some good quality hotdog stands.

I frequent Scooters on lunch from work (by the way, the map here is inaccurate- it's on the NE corner of rt.176 and rt.43), and have never been disappointed. The staff is quick, efficient, and friendly, and the food is cooked to order (or at least heated). The Scooterdog/burger is tasty, with cheese, bacon, and grilled onions. The fries are fantastic, and I'm not even a fan of the fresh-cut kind. The gyros are, well, gyros, which have to be butchered pretty severely to turn out bad. In other words, they're great. The only wait time is if there's a line ahead of you (minus the standard 5min deep-fry or grill), so if you're going on lunch, call ahead if you're in a rush to get out. I highly recommend this hot dog stop if you're passing by, and if you have a few bucks in cash, feel free to drive a block north on rt.43 and turn into the drive-up taco stand housed in an old caboose. I've seen a cook or two from Scooter's work there, and they as well have yet to disappoint.

Great local joint to pick up your usual chicago hot dog/burger fare! speedy service, i would try the fried mushrooms, their cheese dogs, and fresh cut fries.

DO NOT ORDER A CHAR-DOG. Apparently they don't have time to cook you a fresh char-dog, so they pre-cook them and let them sit in a metal pot to keep warm on the grill. This might be acceptable at a hot dog stand in Nebraska, but not in the chicago suburbs. My "pre-charred, reheated dog" was probably sitting for about 3 hours before I ate it. I guess the joke is on me.

Whenever I'm in North Chicago, I have to stop at Scooters for a Maxwell Street Polish and fries. Absolutely, the best tasting polish ever! Love the fries too, they are fresh cut and, if you aren't planning to eat in, they hold up well in takeout orders. The prices are reasonable, the staff is friendly, and the food cooked to order with minimal waiting time. Wish I had a Scooter's near me!

One of the top places in the Chicagoland area for a hotdog. Place is great for a bite after going to the beach which I often do when I'm in the area. Shakes here are also great. Has great outdoor seating as well.

I give this 5 stars for their fresh cut fries alone. No question it's the best HD stand within a 10 mile radius easily. There is nothing like it north to the state line. Certainly nothing going west. To be honest, this blows away Michael's in Highland Park as you go south. Fantastic HD's, Italian Beef, Polish, etc. I have to mention the fries again, they are the Very Best!!!!!!!
(5)
Marc S.
Awful hot dog. Bland and tasteless even with condiments; not that I could taste them over the bun which was dry and too large for the size of the dog. Fries were somehow both over and under cooked. Dining area was dirty despite not having much business. Also tried the gyro, which was considerably better and the food was all reasonably priced. Staff was attentive and quick with orders.
